I was attending a LIBR247 Elluminate session, this morning concerning our Final projects relating to taxonomies or metadata schemes. Part of the requirement was showing visuals, and most of our groups were doing Powerpoint, but one of the groups presented using Prezi. I had never heard of it before, or seen a presentation done through their software. I thought it was quite impressive. So here is an example of one the presentations done through the software.
Facebook's new privacy changes truly has had everyone rethinking social networking privacy and policy. From a Senator asking the Federal Trade commission to create guidelines governing what social networking sites can do with your data.
After reading numerous websites, blogs and other webpages about successful online community growth, I knew there was more information I was missing, so I had to turn to the trusty databases that are available to us.
One of the more interesting articles that I found
I believe that success in an online community happens when the community meets or exceeds your expectations. I state that it meets the goals set for it, because online communities can be successful and still not live up to the standards you set for it.

At first I was unsure of how Nancy White defined the difference between networks and communities. At first I did not believe that there was a significant difference between the two, and I thought that it was more of a semantics problem. But then I considered we are adopting and adapting words to "technologies that have fundamentally changed how we can be together." It still was not clear to me, and I had to look up the definitions of Community and Network in Webster as are below.
Community:
After browsing through some resources on tagging and social metadata, I came across the OCLC Research activity on Social Metadata. They are currently researching the use of social metadata, and have issused a few reports on the subject. Here are some of their observations on the use of social metadata in libraries, museums - which I found to be quite interesting and sums up a lot of what what we are considering pros and cons of social metadata.
