Final Project - Managers Wanted

For your final project, the class will be broken up into four groups. There will be two groups of three people and two groups of two people. Each group will have a project manager who will keep the team on track and provide leadership and vision. I think this will make your project group much more like the reality of the sort of group work we all do in the profession. I also believe strongly that someone needs to take a leadership role in online project groups in order for them to be successful.

I'm looking for four volunteers to be project managers for each of the four teams. Being a project manager does not mean that you will have more work to do than the others; that all depends on how you divvy up the work on the project. It just means that you will  take more of a leadership role on the team.  If you'd like to be a project manager, please email me at meredithfarkas[at]gmail.com. The first four people who email me will become project managers. If I haven't gotten four volunteers by September 22nd, I will have to assign the roles at random.

Once the four project managers have been chosen, I will create a page on the wiki for people to choose their groups. You can choose whichever group you want, but just remember that only two groups can have three members; the other groups will have two members.

For planning purposes, you can create pages for your group on the wiki, you can meet in Elluminate (just let our Elluminate assistant, Mary Ellen Petrich mellen[at]make-do.org know and she'll set you up with a room), through instant messaging, or use whatever outside productivity tools you'd like to take advantage of. Many of the social software tools we're learning about in this class are great for group projects. I wish I'd known about wikis back when I was in library school and my group was sending around 5 different versions of the same Word document trying to reconcile all of our changes!

As always, let me know if you have any questions. Obviously, your final project isn't due until December 4th, but I wanted to get the groups created early on so that you have plenty of time to work at your own pace.
