Last week, I discovered Stickam which is a video-chat/show website. I actually found it because one of our lectures had mentioned twit.tv and Leo Laporte’s live internet show. When I clicked on Leo’s live streaming, it directed me to Stickam. This social networking site allows people to have live camera interaction with other people. Leo Laporte has a show and he can interact live with his viewers who can post questions and comments. He even has guests on his show. I also looked at other rooms and found other people with their own live streaming videos. I think this website can potentially help with reference services at libraries. It would be nice for librarians to stream live from the reference desk and have people ask questions via the web cam or chat. Maybe library events can also be broadcasted live so people who cannot attend the library can participate. Since I’m on the topic of live streaming, I want to share a show that my friend sent me—live streaming video of cute Shiba Inu Puppies! I must warn you…it could be very addictive watching these puppies play and interact with each other.
I agree that this website can
I agree that this website can potentially help with reference services at libraries. It is wonderful for patrons to receive stream live from the reference desk and ask reference questions via the web cam or chat. Also, it is a great idea that library events can also be broadcasted live so people who cannot attend the library can participate. Children, who can’t attend story time events, can join the events via the web cam. Students can join library instruction classes via the web cam. My family loves Shiba inu cam.
What a great idea for
What a great idea for reference. I'm wondering if librarians can you the video to show the person the answer to their question. A sort of immediate screencast, if they turned the video around to shoot the screen.
It could be really great for
It could be really great for instruction! Imagine teaching an information literacy session to a class and allowing others to benefit from the information who weren't able to attend the class. It would be terrific for distance learners who then could benefit from the same sort of library instruction F2F students get.
And I wish you hadn't told me
And I wish you hadn't told me about the puppy cam -- addictive!!!
