Faculty Tip Sheet for Podcasting

I found the University of Arizona's faculty tip sheet for podcasting very helpful to faculty and academic librarians.  I really wish that podcasting was popular while I was in college.  It would have really helped me remember my professor's lectures.  I often wished I recorded my lectures so I can go back to it to clarify notes, etc.  Now, professors can not only podcast their lectures, they can also record other helpful tips and supplemental materials to enhance the student's understanding of the subject being taught.  This website not only disscusses the benefits of podcasting, it also guides one on the best way to podcast for students.

I agree with you that I also

I agree with you that I also wish that podcasting was popular (or in existence), when I was in college. It’s a wonderful idea for students. Also, I wish that some elluminate sessions of SJSU would be available by podcast and downloadable. That way I could listen to the sessions while I am driving to work.

Elluminate does offer a tool

Elluminate does offer a tool to convert sessions to podcasts.  I'll find out more about it and let you know.

If you want an audio version

If you want an audio version (a stand-alone podcast) of an Elluminate session, ask your professor to ask Debbie Faires to create one.  Prof. Faires will need a link to the recording of the session.

There is also the possibility of creating a video-cast of an Elluminate session.  You might consider requesting one of your presentation at the end of the term.  The video-cast can only show slides or application sharing.  It cannot show a web tour.

As someone who rarely missed

As someone who rarely missed class, but frequently daydreamed through parts of it, podcasting would have been great for filling in those parts of the lecture where my mind wandered.

Definitely!  Maybe I would

Definitely!  Maybe I would have passed chemistry if I could have downloaded the podcast of the lecture to review again and again...then again, maybe not Wink.  Podcasting wouldn't have to put any additional work on the professors, as long as they just recorded their lectures as they were giving them in class.

Thank you for sharing this

Thank you for sharing this tipsheet! I am going to share it with the librarians at my work. I had a conversation with our director recently, and she is really interested in incorporating more Web 2.0 technologies in our library--even if we have to drag a few of the others along with us! :)
