Ipods and podcast are becoming very important and powerful learning tools in education. According to this article, written by Derik DeLong, iTunes dedicated an area called iTunes U available through, iTunes Store box on the store’s home page. iTunes U features audio and visual content from a number of schools, such as MIT; Penn State; Stanford; and the University of California, Berkeley. These universities are using iPods to help expand core literacy in ways that are fresh and exciting for students. The students can listen to the lecture according to their own time schedule. They can also revisit the podcasts and review what they may have missed or forgotten. Aside from college coursework, tutorial on everything and even language lessons are also available on iTune stores. iPod’s Portable Notes feature was also discussed on this article where you can store notes for speech, presentation and minutes from meeting, which you can retrieve anytime. Other tools such as flashcards, prefab notes, iPreppress and podcast on other interesting college courses that you probably missed were also described in this article.
Thanks for posting this
Thanks for posting this Ethel. I have owned an IPod for a while now but I have to admit that I never use it for anything beyond jogging. This article by DeLong provided some excellent suggestions. I could certainly make use of some of the language and adult learning resources. Hopefully there is a podcast that tells you what to do when your investments disappear before your eyes
The educational uses of iPods
The educational uses of iPods are tremendous and it's nice to see more universities taking advantage of it since the devices are becoming almost ubiquitous.
Shawn, I think most of us don't use our podcasts for much other than listening to music and (maybe) podcasts, but it's nice to know that it's such a flexible device in case we ever want to use it for more than that.
