I like the Denver Public Library Podcast -- Stories for Kids. It is a traditional library service but in a new format adding a new dimension to listening. Its very engaging, they use a variety of materials such as fairy and folk tales, storytime favorites, nursery rhymes, interviews and songs recorded by multiple and distintive storytellers. Storytellers don’t talk fast they are relax and the pace is steady throughout. They have partnership with publishers like Harvest House, and August House and as a result of these efforts, their podcast audience will grow by week.
Denver Public Library Podcast -- Stories for Kids no longer means missing out on storytime. For few parents who can't bring kids to story time simply because they're at work when the library holds story time and kids have to stay home because of illness. Another implication of this podcast is that it can be transferred to MP3 devices and listen to while parents are driving or performing other activities.
As a soon-to-be parent, I
As a soon-to-be parent, I find resources like this really exciting. I plan to read to my child myeslf, but some parents just don't see the value in that or are too busy. At least if the child can look at the book and try to follow along with the podcast, they can benefit even if their parents aren't involved. But, like you said, it's even great for a road trip when the parent has to focus their attention elsewhere.
