My name is Elisabeth Sundby. I’m joining the course from Bakersfield, CA where I live with my husband and three young children. I grew up in Narvik, Norway and came to the United States to attend college in Tacoma, WA. My academic background includes undergraduate degrees in accounting and finance and a Masters of Business Administration. I worked in corporate finance and budget management for many years then decided to freelance/consult when our first child was born. I liked the freedom so much that I have continued ever since. I work with a variety of projects; budgeting, proposals, records management, researching market information, knowledge management, etc. In the SLIS program I’m focusing on records and archives.
I’m interested in learning about the different types of Web 2.0 applications, including how to evaluate its importance to the organization, and how it can be managed and used effectively. I have a special interest in market research and environmental scans using Web 2.0 applications. My work is very project oriented, and I enjoy coming into a new situation and seeing how digital applications are used within various settings. I hope the class will help me keep on top of current trends and developments, and expose me to new media as well.
I spend most of my free time on family activities and community and school volunteering. I love to travel, and last spring I was able to go to Peru to fulfill a long-time dream of seeing Macchu Picchu. My profile picture was taken on this trip. This summer I was able to take my family back to Norway, and spent much time hiking and biking and reconnecting with family and friends. I also enjoy cooking and entertaining. My husband is a home brewer, so he always has multiple home brews lined up for me to match food with.
Hi Elisabeth--your work as a
Hi Elisabeth--your work as a freelancer sounds very varied and stimulating. I'm interested in knowledge management and would love to hear about the types of km projects you've worked on. My younger son visited Macchu Picchu and one of many things that amazed him was the stonework--how the stones are fitted so closely and precisely.
Hi Cindy. I have been
Hi Cindy.
I have been fortunate to work on a wide variety of projects. During the economic boom when employee turnover was so high, it seemed organizations were especially interested in capturing organizational knowledge. Enterprise Content Managment is a more focused version of KM, and I've been working with implementation projects for some software solutions. I work mostly with smaller companies and am by no means an expert, but I have done a lot of project management and picked up some info management in the process.
I was facinated by the stonwork of the Incas as well. I have a lot of pictures of stonework, I just couldn't help taking them. But you really have to visit to understand how amazing it really is.
I look forward to working with you during the semester.
HI Elisabeth--I'm curious
HI Elisabeth--I'm curious about methods for capturing organizational knowledge and wonder if social software will make it easier for people to share their knowledge.
Macchu Picchu is on my list of places to visit. I agree that there's nothing like really being there--this is one more instance where being present tops the virtual :-).
I too look forward to working with you this semester.
Hi Elisabeth. I LOVE Norway!
Hi Elisabeth. I LOVE Norway! I lived in Denmark for almost a year and took a cruise to Oslo and then my boyfriend and I drove around southern Norway. It was nice to feel like the Danish I learned was useful in at least one other country! I've always wanted to visit your part of Norway and see what it's like in the Arctic Circle.
This class is much more about evaluating technologies and determining how to make them successful and useful in an organization than it is about learning technologies, so I hope you'll find it very useful.
Hi. How interesting to hear
Hi. How interesting to hear that you lived in Denmark, I'm sure that was quite an experience. I never pass on an opportunity to promote North Norway. It is quite the experience to spend time in the Artic, whether it be in the summer with the 24 hr daylight, or in the winter with no sun at all. We had a wonderful summer there, and I was thankful for the flexibility provided by online education and work arrangements. If you ever have the chance to go, North Norway is stunningly beautiful and well worth the trip.
