Final Reflections

  • What were your favorite experiences in the course?

Webcasts, screencasts, participant blogs and proposals, group chats, activities, and readings – all of it!

  • What technology did you find most interesting for your personal use? What technology did you think would be most useful professionally?

Probably the only one of these technologies that I will use for personal reasons is flickr – where I can post photos to share with friends who live far away.  For professional work, I think the wiki will be most useful to me – for collaborating with colleagues.

  • Were there any unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?

I am surprised at how often I use delicious.  I am not bookmarking myself, but find it useful to review what others have bookmarked.  In general, I think popular tagging is very effective.

Like Candice, I am not impressed with Second Life or MySpace.  Although MySpace can be a place for libraries to meet up with patrons and with each other, I think it will probably be replaced with some other new thing before too long.

  • What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?

The course was all so wonderful, the only things I can think of to improve it have already been mentioned – providing information about the time duration of screencasts and, as Holly mentioned – coordinating the information about the presentations and follow-up chats with presenters a little more closely.

  • If there is anything else you'd like to tell us about your experiences in this course, please feel free to do so.

Library 2.0 is all the buzz at my workplace right now, and this course came along at a perfect time.  I am excited to share my new skills and knowledge and I know that using these social software tools will enhance our services in every way.

This is a busy time for me and during the last month I haven’t had as much time to put in to the course as I would like, but I intend to re-visit this course website and review the materials again. Thanks so much for presenting the Five Weeks course!
