Final reflections

  • What were your favorite experiences in the course?
    • Our Wednesday night group meetings
    • The Opal exchanges
    • Communicating with other librarians
  • What technology did you find most interesting for your personal use? What technology did you think would be most useful professionally?
    • for my personal use: Flickr, I had used it a bit, but will use it much more now.
    • For my professional use the wiki has already become indespensible.
  • Were there any unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
    • I now understand how my students feel about their on-line friends. I had doubted the validity of these friendships until I got into a group of amazing , funny, and supportive librarians. (That's Group 6!) It's so nice to find others who understand what you do! (I now actually SOUND like my teen patrons.)
    • I didn't realize going in how much work this would be, but I was surprised to find that I was enjoying myself so much, I didn't mind giving up sleep for five weeks.
  • What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
    • Telling participants how much time each presentation takes.
    • Each week, sending out a schedule that was organized by day and time. It would be helpful if you could also associate the follow-up talk with the presenter with the presentation they are doing. For example: Assignment: Joe Shmoe screencast on blogging (63 minutes), meet with Joe in Drupal on Tuesday at 6 to talk about it.
  • If there is anything else you'd like to tell us about your experiences in this course, please feel free to do so.
    • I appreciate your attitude that each participant should try to figure out things by themselves because we have to do that so often, and I did that within this class. But I'll admit now, there are two very basic processes I cannot figure out. I did have some connectivity problems and am hoping when I can see the rest of the screencasts I missed, these things will become clear, but I was hesitant to ask for help when I thought the answer was probably very obvious and I wasn't getting it.
    • This course has changed the way we communicate and collaborate at the college. I can't begin to tell you what a difference it has made
    • I will be presenting a program about this class at this year's Tribal College Librarian's Institute in Montana along with a Dave Hurley, another Tribal College librarian who actually understands this backwards and forwards.
    • I was impressed by the number of presenters from Minnesota! It's a perfect example of the diversity of this state when the technology leaders are 100 miles away from a place where many don't even have phones.
  • Thanks, organizers. This was amazing.
