Resource Discovery to Resource Creation: a mashup

Sorry for being a wee bit late: life has intervened. I have benefitted from seeing how other people have formatted their proposals. I was particularly impressed with the use of the wiki to format the proposal--so I copied it! I also had the bright idea to use a wiki with RSS and tags. I am not completely sure if my RSS is working properly...sometimes I find that my del.icio.us tags don't all load.

My main concept is resource discovery, and sharing of community created resources.

My proposal can be viewed here.

Tamara,

I thought it was great that you utilized the technology to create your proposal. Seeing software at work really helps with vizualization. I think your proposal is interesting, particularly the discussion regarding potential problems. Using del.icio.us as a tool against plagiarism is brilliant. What better way is there to track down the resources students are using?

Great proposal! I will be

Great proposal! I will be interested to see how your RSS feeds and use of delicious works out. I'm using a wiki to develop subject guides and I'd eventually like to bring in RSS and delicious. Good luck

Tamara, From one school

Tamara,

From one school librarian to another, I commend you and your efforts.  Posting your proposal to the wiki you intend to use is wicked cool.  Like you we recognize our patrons include both students and teachers.  Your proposal addresses both their needs and interests.  Required assessment will motivate students to add content and edit.  The common account should simplify matters.  Very nice links as evidence!  You are realistic in seeking out a few teachers to buy-in and influence others to incorporate these social software tools in the way they work and teach.  Your real world recognition of the trust issue is sound, learning when and how to collaborate in building a tool that serves the common good, and the constant vigilance in monitoring the propriety of new content.  Very impressive and doable!  School librarians are multi-talented!

Tamara - wow! what a great

Tamara - wow! what a great proposal and I absolutely love that you used a wiki to do it! It has inspired me to work even more on my own wiki, just have to find the time to do it! I think your idea of using del.icio.us is great, and combining it with a wiki is an idea I might just have to use too!

This a great use of a combination of technologies to get the job done. I'm glad that you hit on the idea of using best of breed technologies for your project. Make sure that you have adequate training for both the students and the teachers working with the students to add links. In addition, as you point out an extension of the "Acceptable Use Policy" which discusses appropriate content is a good idea.
