Help!

I have to say, of everything we've covered, I have the most trouble figuring how we'd use Flickr at our library. I've seen other libraries do cool stuff, absolutely--but I haven't said "Oh, wow. That would be great at Colby!" We don't need hosting, our library news is there (tho not stellar, I agree), the points of social networking (how likely is a college student to friend the flickr library account) seem to apply. I see it working at other types of libraries, but not ours.
Oh, no. Did I just turn into a naysayer?
Help me out, here.

Nah. Nobody expects
Nah. Nobody expects everybody to like everything. You're fine.
FWIW, I don't even have a Flickr account. Probably has something to do with my extreme distaste for having photographs taken of myself.

Yeah, don't sweat it. I had a Flickr account for many months before I decided it was something I wanted to do.
Aside from using it in a library, I find Flickr inspiring as an example of interface design. I'm not saying that it is perfect, but I look to it for inspiration in building digital library interfaces.

Definitely something else to consider. Gave me pause when Dan Cohen said flat-out that the user-interface design for Zotero was inspired by -- iTunes!

Getting off-topic here a bit, but my latest idea (that I have no idea how to implement) is to build an iTunes-style interface for our VHS/DVD collection--not to watch them, just to find them. It isn't easily browsable as a physical collection, and the library catalog works for known-item searches and little else.

I wouldn't sweat it. I had a Flickr account too for many months without knowing what to do with it. I eventually just set up a library slide show on the about us page for the library. Patrons can watch the show and see all the fun stuff to do at the library. I set it up once, loaded and haven't gone back to it. Sometimes it is good to have a tool so when someone asks, you know something about it or know how to use it. I am using Photobucket more know since I can use the videos as well as slide shows.
