Info on Myspace band playing in libraries

I mentioned this English band today during the IM session. We met them through MySpace. They were hard to resist with their name Mr. Hudson and the Library. They do concerts in libraries. They are looking for US libraries to host a concert. Brooklyn College is on board. Perhaps your library would like to be included?

My name is Stewart Parsons, and I work as Senior Music Librarian at Lancaster Library in Lancaster in the UK.

Get It Loud in Libraries is a nationally recognized, award winning project I designed, using modern pop and rock to give kids a good time in a library and reset their perceptions about what we do. The programme stages gigs and original rock shows in the library, and works remarkably well.

It alters modern perceptions and dispels myths in regard Libraries and where young people especially can access popular culture, novels and quiet time, with some brilliant national coverage of the project on Open Book on BBC Radio 4, and articles in The Times, The Guardian and New Statesman.

With things developing nicely and kids coming back into libraries for new experiences, I am keen to introduce to US Libraries a new UK band signed to Mercury Records, who wish to replicate their recent sell out UK Library tour and play some East Coast libraries in the future.

The band is Mr Hudson & the Library.

Mr Hudson & the Library are currently touring the UK with a sell out Amy Winehouse tour but are keen to play some innovative US Libraries under the Get It Loud in Libraries project soon. The band is a true and staunch supporter of the unique cultural power of public libraries and is keen to use their pop star status to raise the profile of all the great projects happening in modern libraries.
