Better late than never...
Last week was a very busy week and before I knew it the week was over before I got a chance to blog! I am learning so much in this course. It's exciting! It's also going very fast. I will be sad when it's over. :(
I never realized how useful RSS was until last week! I thought it was mostly just a way to alert you to changes on a web page. I never realized you could also use it to pull content into your web page. What a great idea! I know I and lots of the librarians in my system are always looking for a way to make web pages easier to update! This will easily fit into that category. I am currently using an rss feed to pull pics in from flickr and to pull my in my delicious links. I have been using that for a few months now and never realized I was doing it with RSS. I was just copying and pasting links... now it all makes a lot more sense. :) I am excited to try a lot of the new things I learned last week.
I also really got into using google reader. I am not sure if I like it or bloglines better, but this class will help me decide that. Right now it seems to be bloglines since I can easily remember the web address... hehe. However, I think google reader has its advantages, too.
Before this course I had also set up a Delicious account, (sorry I can never remember where to put all the dots. Aren't I a great techie?) but I always got frustrated with it because I felt like it was kind of disorganized. Wala! This week I learned all sorts of new ways to organize it. I knew it was possible I just hadn't had the time to experiment with it. Here are some of the new tips in delicious I learned:
1. Creating a bundle
2. Using the for:tag to send someone a link.
3. Sending a link with a tag in it. (Before I always just sent a link to ALL of my bookmarks which was really frustrating to newer users. Who wants to sift through all of my bookmarks?)
I really enjoyed bookmarking again this last week thanks to all the new things I learned! I have already showed a few people and can't wait to show more!
