Tagging

As I've been tagging, I always stop and think about what is the best tag to use, and I think in terms of other users seeing it, like I want to use the "right" tag, the one everyone else is using. My thought about this has to do with the balance between the tags serving our personal need while also serving the social community. I've been enlightened, however, by this weeks screencasts and webcasts. The idea of compund tags is great, one that hadn't occured to me before. Use a compund tag, like "work:reference" and the simple, applicable tags. I think that's a great way to organize your tagging as well as to serve both your personal needs and the web community at the same time.
