Girls Night Out & RSS Feeds!

I stayed up so late last night doing the optional activities for this week. I know I am becoming addicted... but I just had so much fun and learned so much by actually doing it. So as I have mentioned before I have a "Girls Night Out" book discussion group at the library and I thought this would be a perfect way to test adding RSS feeds.

  • Step 1: I signed up for a Gmail account, so that I could create a web page in Google Page Creater.
  • Step 2: Chose a theme and layout for my page.
  • Step 3: Used Feed2JS to incorporate feeds into the page. (one from The Chick Tale Lounge & another from NYT Thursday Styles)
  • Step 4: Then I incorporated a feed from Library Thing. (just a small selection of the books we've read)
  • Step 5: I used Grazr to practice putting in a box of information from Trashionista.

I had so much fun playing around - you should try it out. Even though this is just a test page. I plan to put some real information in to show my group. Thought I would share my example - Girls Night Out! (in progress - I plan on adding del.icio.us bookmarks too.)

Go you! It looks great! I

Go you! It looks great! I know when I first discovered that you could syndicate RSS-enabled content in these ways, I was bowled over and wanted to use it everywhere! I mean the possibilities for what you can do with this (both in libraries and personally) are endless.

Your enthusiasm is really inspiring. I hope your library knows how lucky they are to have you. :)

What a great idea!

You GO GIRL! This is a great

You GO GIRL! This is a great idea and a wonderful example of the tools we're learning to use. You've inspired me to play a little more! :)

Way to play! People wonder

Way to play! People wonder how I know some of the tech things I know, as if I have some intelligence they lack, but for me its all been gained by playing with it, experimenting, and trying. That's how you learn. It's so refreshing to be here with a group of people who are willing to take the plunge and try these tools out!

Your page looks great! I'm

Your page looks great!

I'm impressed with what you did... that is exactly how to learn. I think, after this course is over and I have time again, I'm going to look at this blog entry and do the exact same thing, step by step. Thanks for posting!

WOW! Thanks to all of you

WOW! Thanks to all of you that responded! Yes...patience, getting in and playing with these great tools is all it takes to get ideas flowing. However, I couldn't of done it without All of you ~ and this Great Online Educational Opportunity!! :)

Wow, really awesome job!

Wow, really awesome job!  You're right, you learn so much more by playing with the technologies and doing things, than just reading or hearing about them.  I love your page theme.

Best,

I am not sure exactly what

I am not sure exactly what you guys read in your group, but another great blog for RSS fun is Smart B*t&hes Who Love Trashy Novels. It is one of my favorites, written by two ladies with Lit degrees who just happen to like romances. They do occasionally use light language, so be aware if you syndicate. It may be something that you just choose posts from or use as a resource.
