Making decisions....
In order to decide what blogging tool I would like to use in my library... I thought why not try them out! The first tool I am in the process of testing is WordPress. I figure the more I become familar with the tool it will be easier to present the idea of a blog to administration. Therefore, I decided to create a private blog using WordPress. I actually heard about WordPress from this course - so I am still a newbie but catching on.
Some of the reasons why I decided to try WordPress were:
- It's Free!
- So far easy to set up, navigate, and manage.
- Love the themes and how simple it was to switch them.
- Handles creating catergories nicely.
- Has a Spell Check!
- Great stats tool. You can see a chart for the last 30days, what posts get the most traffic, referrers, etc.
- Allows multiple authors. Good if my department decides to create a collaborative blog!
- Various privacy options. This might be an excellent selling point to present to administration.
- You can save dratfs.
Things I am still practicing:
- Adding widgets
- Tag surfering
Last but not least, how could you go wrong choosing WordPress with so many well known bloggers using it (Meebo uses WordPress)! Well, I am just in the beginning stages and looking forward to buliding my blog.

At mbmpl.org/vg I've used
At mbmpl.org/vg I've used tags to represent the bibliographic information of the games I review using wordpress catagories. Ann Arbor also uses social tagging in its catalog with drupal software.
One reason I like Wordpress so much is that it is very customizable, allowing me to easily change the look and feel to anything I want. Its allowed me to embed blogging into my site at one point, and also flexibly use it for other purposes like reviews. It also allows me to host on my server, which is a big feature.
Enjoy Wordpress
You got me all excited! We
You got me all excited! We are getting started using WordPress and I have been frustrated because what we are using doesn't have spell check. (not I could ever find anyway) I thought maybe I missed it, but I looked again today and it's not there. :( Was it an option when you were writing a post or a page? For us WordPress is actually installed on a server on another system in the state. They set us it up for us through a grant and all the state systems share it. Maybe that has something to do with it.
I LOVE the categories, too. I also like how you can turn comments on or off for certain posts if you want... I think it looks really clean, too.
