Article: "Kids, the Internet, and the End of Privacy"

I thought 5'ers might be interested in the article Kids, the Internet, and the End of Privacy: The New Generation Gap from New York magazine.I found it via Liz Lawley's del.icio.us bookmarks.

I thought the article did a good job of really talking to young people about how and why they use social networking sites and other online social tools.

The article is full of good quotes from the kids themselves and from commentators such as Clay Shirky. Here is just one:

From their perspective, it’s the extreme caution of the earlier generation that’s the narcissistic thing. Or, as Kitty put it to me, “Why not? What’s the worst that’s going to happen? Twenty years down the road, someone’s gonna find your picture? Just make sure it’s a great picture.”

Steve, thanks so much for

Steve, thanks so much for this article. Although it makes me feel very old and out of it, it does make sense. Scary sense, but sense none the less. I have shared it with many people already. Thanks, again!
