The book is here!
On Friday, I received my copies of the newly printed Social Software in Libraries and they look great! That means that they should now be shipping from Information Today Books and soon from Amazon.com as well. I’m really excited that people will finally be receiving their copies and I look forward to getting feedback. I really hope you like it, but more importantly, I hope it makes you think about how you can use these tools in your setting. I’m sure plenty of people will disagree with my definition of social software and I look forward to a lively debate on that topic.
For those of you who live in California, I am currently developing a four-week-long online course on social software for InfoPeople. The exact title of the course is Web 2.0: Connecting with the Community Using Social Software and it’s designed primarily for those who do (or are interested in) outreach, marketing and PR work. The course is totally free for librarians in California, which is something I’m really excited about. It’ll be fun to teach another class on social software and to get some experience on the instructor side of using online courseware (in this case, ANGEL).
I will also be at the American Library Association’s Annual Conference next month in Washington, D.C. I’ll be hanging out at the American Libraries booth in the exhibit hall on Saturday, June 23rd, between 11 am and 1 pm. I may be signing books at the Information Today booth as well, but I haven’t heard about the scheduling yet. In addition, I’ll be giving three talks at the conference:
Sunday, June 24, 10:30-12:00 (RUSA MARS) Harnessing the Hive: Social Networks and Libraries
Sunday, June 24, 1:30-3:30 (ASCLA ICAN) Finding New and Creative Solutions through Library Think Tanks
Monday, June 25, 10:30-12:00 (PLA LD) Wiking the Blog and Walking the Dog - Social Software, Virtual Reality and Authority Everywhere
I hope to see some of you at ALA or in my social software class! It’s certainly going to be quite a summer!
